2024 Bond Projects Break Ground

As the 2024-25 school year comes to an end, work on two of the 2024 bond projects is just beginning.

On May 13, 2025, students and staff gathered around to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new elementary school near the site of the current Holly Hills Elementary School. The new elementary school, expected to open in the 2026-27 school year, will accommodate students from Holly Ridge and Holly Hills from preschool through 5th grade. The two elementary schools are the third and fourth oldest in the district with Holly Hills built in 1958 and Holly Ridge built in 1962.

On May 14, 2025, a groundbreaking ceremony was held at Overland High School to celebrate the start of construction on several projects on the campus as part of the 2024 bond measure. Construction will begin to build a pool on-site, renovate the IST Building located between Overland High School and Prairie Middle School to accommodate in-demand career pathways for students, as well as minor renovations inside Overland High School, such as expanding the automotive bays and learning area. Construction is expected to conclude on the IST Building for the 2026-27 school year, with the pool and other minor renovations expected to finish in the fall of 2026.

These two groundbreakings followed the start of construction on the expansion of the Cherry Creek Innovation Campus (CCIC) which began in January 2025. The expansion of CCIC will nearly double the footprint of the existing building, adding nine new pathways and accommodating 70% more students. Construction is expected to be completed and open for the 2026-27 school year.

All three of these projects are part of the bond measure passed by voters in November 2024. Other projects include rebuilding the aging buildings on the Cherry Creek PK-12 campus (Phase I); rebuilding Laredo Middle School; renovating athletic facilities on the east side of the district; safety and security upgrades at every school, including security window film and security camera replacement; as well as addressing maintenance needs at every school such as playgrounds, roofs, plumbing, HVAC, electrical work, and more. The Cherry Creek PK-12 campus rebuild and Laredo Middle School rebuild are expected to break ground in fall 2025.
