Student Expectations

Welcome to the Cherry Creek Innovation Campus! The CCIC has been designed to provide a work-based learning environment for students to gain a competitive edge as they enter college, the workforce, or the military upon graduation. As such, all expectations of students revolve around industry standards regarding behavior, dress, and ethics. Please take a moment to review the student expectations:

Attendance

Students are required to attend classes regularly; however, we do know that absences occur. If a student is absent from school, a parent/guardian call directly to the CCIC is required to excuse the absence. Students are responsible for following the procedures established by the teacher for requesting and making-up all missed classwork and homework. The district does have policies that
align with state law regarding mandatory school attendance for students under the age of 17. Students who become truant as defined by the State of Colorado may be referred to the Student Attendance Review Board, SARB, for intervention and support.

All students accepted into the Cherry Creek Innovation Campus make a firm commitment to attend school each day and produce quality work. Professional skills are at the forefront of all that occurs at the CCIC. As such, attendance is a professional skill which will be addressed in the CCIC Professional Skills Rubric. In addition, progression through CCIC pathways is contingent upon
attendance and performance.

Absences/Tardies:

Teachers will take attendance in PowerSchool within the first 10 minutes of each class and will make individual changes by the end of the period. Students arriving more than 10 minutes late will require a pass to enter class.

2. Students absent or arriving late to class will be marked using the following PowerSchool codes:

“U” is Unexcused Absence and will remain until a parent call is made directly to CCIC.
“E” is Excused Absence and indicates that we have received notification from a parent that the student is absent.
“T” is Tardy and is defined as arriving late to class 10 minutes or less.
“UP” is Unexcused Present and is defined as arriving late to class 11 to 60 minutes late.
“U” is Unexcused and is defined as arriving more than 60 minutes late.

Discipline

The Board of Education seeks to maintain an environment in the schools which is conducive to learning, protective of the safety and welfare of students and staff, and free from unnecessary disruption.

Students are expected to pursue the educational program and behave in such a way that their presence does not detract from their own education or the education of others. Students shall treat teachers, administrators, other district employees and fellow students with dignity and respect, and shall behave in such a manner that their presence does not detract from a productive educational environment. Students shall be expected to comply with district, school and classroom rules (CCSD
BOE Policy JIC).

If a student’s behavior does not meet these expectations, he/she will be subject to disciplinary
action. Disciplinary actions may include:

Verbal warning.
Student conference.
Phone call home to parent/guardian.
Conference with parent/guardian.
Referral to administration.

Illegal Substances

The use of substances that are against CCSD School policy (CCSD BOE Policy JICH), including but not limited to THC and alcohol, will lead to disciplinary action at the student’s home high school. In addition to these consequences, restrictions to class participation or removal from the following CCIC programs may be warranted due to additional and inherent safety risks: Aerospace, Construction Trades, Health & Wellness, Hospitality & Tourism, Transportation & Veterinary Sciences. Any student operating heavy machinery and tools under an illegal substance puts themself at risk as well as their peers and instructors.

Safety

Safety is paramount at CCIC. Each pathway has specific safety protocols for facilities, equipment, technology and materials. Students are expected to follow all safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe work and learning environment. Failure to follow safety procedures can result in a student being denied access to facilities, equipment, technology and materials.

Facilities, Equipment, technology, and materials can include, but not limited to, knives, blades, saws, hammers, and box cutters provided and used in a controlled environment under instructor supervision. However, any items brought on to campus or removed from campus will be subject to the CCSD Weapons in School policy (CCSD BOE Policy JIC).

Student IDs

Student Dress Code

A safe and disciplined learning environment is essential to a quality educational program. District-wide standards on student attire are intended to help students concentrate on schoolwork, reduce discipline problems, and improve school order and safety. The Board recognizes that students have a right to express themselves through dress and personal appearance; however, students shall not wear apparel that is deemed disruptive or potentially disruptive to the classroom environment or to the maintenance of a safe and orderly school. Refer to CCSD BOE Policy JICAB for additional information related to student dress code.

All students at the CCIC will wear a uniform that has been chosen according to industry standards. Students are expected to wear their uniform on days they will be attending the CCIC, unless instructed differently by their teacher. Uniforms will be worn at all times while at CCIC, including classroom break times. Compliance with dress code is part of a student’s Professional Skills grade. Uniforms must be worn in a manner that does not display the skin on a student’s torso.

Hooded apparel may be worn (examples - hoodies, jackets, etc.), but hoods must be worn in a manner that does not cover the student’s face while in the CCIC building. Students wearing earbuds or similar devices must keep one ear free to hear emergency alerts and directives and to maintain an appropriate level of safety consciousness while in the CCIC building. To maintain a safe and productive environment, teachers may define a more restrictive earbud policy in classrooms and learning studios.

Student Grading Policy

Student grades will be determined by a combination of Knowledge and Theory, Competency and Skills and Professional Skills. All students at the CCIC will use a common Professional Skills Rubric to determine their Professional Skills grade. The Knowledge and Theory, and Competency and Skills categories each make up 35% of a student's grade, while Professional Skills account for the remaining 30%.

Course progression requires students to meet all prerequisites as defined in the course catalog. Current CCIC students must successfully complete their CCIC course with a grade of D or higher to advance to the next level.

Student Make-up Work

In an effort to re-engage the student in school and in their learning, make-up work shall be provided for any class in which a student has an excused absence, unless otherwise determined by the building administrator or unless the absence is due to the student’s expulsion from school. It is the responsibility of the student to pick up any make-up assignments permitted on the day they return to class. At the CCIC, students will be given two business days (Monday to Friday) to complete make-up work for every excused absence.

Make-up work shall be allowed following an unexcused absence or following a student’s suspension from school with the goal of providing the student an opportunity to keep up with the class and an incentive to attend school. At the CCIC, the amount of credit and time allowed for make-up work is based on the teacher's make-up policy. Variations may also be based upon the type of absence (ie. excused vs. unexcused).

Student Use of the Internet and Electronic Communications

Used appropriately, the internet and electronic communications (including but not limited to email, chat rooms, file-sharing and other forms of electronic communication) have vast potential to support curriculum and student learning. The Board of Education believes these resources should be used in schools as a learning resource to educate and to inform. See CCSD BOE policy JS for specific information regarding these resources.

Student Parking

The CCIC has parking designated for student use. Students must register their vehicle both at their home high school and at the CCIC. While there is no additional fee for parking at the CCIC, parking is a privilege and is contingent upon following school policies and expectations.

All students who park at the CCIC must have a valid driver’s license, insurance and current vehicle registration on file. Inappropriate parking or unsafe driving on or around campus may result in the suspension or loss of parking privileges and may be subject to receiving a ticket. Students are expected to drive responsibly and park only in designated student parking areas.

During the 2025-2026 school year due to construction parking is limited, parking lot adjustments will be communicated with students. The CCIC has parking designated for student use. Students must register their car at their home high school and at the CCIC. Student parking at the CCIC does not require any additional fees but does require registration.

Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs)

Career and Technical Student Organizations enhance student learning through contextual instruction, applied learning, and authentic industry competitions. As a participant in the CTSO, students develop their leadership and professional capacities by leading the implementation of CTSO roles, responsibilities, and regulations. Each CTSO chapter will focus on the 6 pillars of a CTSO: Business and Industry Connections, Community Service, Financial Leadership, Professional Development, Public Relations, and Social Activities. Students are encouraged, but not required, to participate fully in these organizations (additional fees may be required for student affiliation).

Student Fees

Each pathway at the CCIC requires a student fee. These fees are used to help support the programs in regards to consumables, equipment upkeep and repair, and uniforms. Please click the following link to pay fees online: RevTrak Payments. Unpaid student fees will be entered in PowerSchool one month after the first day of the semester. Nonpayment of fees may result in delays at registration, as well as the loss of certain privileges at home high schools.
