Skills Developed
Film develops essential skills such as technical proficiency in operating cameras and editing software, as well as storytelling and scriptwriting techniques to craft compelling narratives. Additionally, students enhance their collaborative abilities through teamwork on projects and gain critical analysis skills to understand and evaluate films effectively.
Students in this course have access to state-of-the-art cameras, editing software, facilities, audio tools, and film accessories while learning the fundamentals of filmmaking. Students learn how to use digital video editing software to create, edit, and save movies, working with digital video clips, photos and music. The basics of shooting good video, capturing video from a camera to a computer, creating movies for the web, and completing a finished product will be covered. Along the way, students are introduced to story development, scriptwriting, production planning, and hands-on training in lighting, sound, and camera techniques. The course concludes with short film projects that emphasize both the creative and technical foundations of cinematic storytelling.

Students in this course have access to state-of-the-art cameras, editing software, facilities, audio tools, and film accessories as they pursue advanced film production. This course allows for individualized, advanced, and/or cumulative work in a program of study to allow for specialized study. It may include problem-/project-based learning or preparation for industry certification. The specific content and course design is determined by the instructor, in collaboration with the individual student. Projects emphasize higher-level storytelling, directing, and production techniques, giving students the opportunity to develop professional-quality short films and deepen their mastery of cinematic arts.
