Mechatronics is a rapidly evolving field at the intersection of multiple engineering disciplines.
This course introduces the foundations of electronics, robotics, and automation with a strong emphasis on hands-on learning. Students study Direct Current (DC) and Alternating Current (AC) principles, including voltage, current, resistance, Ohm’s Law, and the design of both series and parallel circuits. Key topics include magnetism, motors, generators, and electromagnetic induction, reinforced through breadboarding, printed circuit board fabrication, and the use of electronic test equipment. Students also explore industrial robotics and mechatronics by learning axis configurations, work envelopes, programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance. A survey of manufacturing automation covers its history, process control, computer and hardwired controls, and the role of sensors, transducers, actuators, and fluid power systems. Lab activities extend into constructing pneumatic and hydraulic circuits, studying rotating equipment such as pumps and compressors, and applying preventive maintenance and safety practices. By the end of the course, students gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills that prepare them for advanced study and careers in electronics, robotics, and automation
This course takes your knowledge of electronics, robotics, and automation to the next level by focusing on electromechanical systems and industrial maintenance in advanced manufacturing. Students develop skills in AC and DC motors, drive systems, pumps, hydraulics, pneumatics while practicing fundamental safety standards. You’ll also work with electrical systems, digital electronics, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs), while learning to calibrate instruments and apply troubleshooting procedures through hands-on lab experiences. Students research, design, and build robotics automation projects that bring together pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, mechanical design, and programming. Lab activities emphasize sensors, actuators, process control, and the integration of multiple systems to solve real-world challenges. By the end of the course, students will have the technical skills and problem-solving confidence needed for advanced postsecondary programs or entry-level careers in robotics, automation, and industrial maintenance.
